HEY, Micro.blog and web standards

It is fun to compare HEY and Micro.blog. They both depend on open web standards on the backend. HEY depends on SMTP while Micro.blog depends on HTTPS/HTML. HEY wants to re-invent the end-user experience while Micro.blog provides a pretty much generic end-user experience. By turning the end-user experience upside down, HEY doesn’t rely on IMAP. This is where some people turns their back to HEY (there may be other reasons, though).

Why Micro.blog. Why Hey.

First day with Hey. Love it so far. A bit disorienting at first. Old habits don’t die easily. Forwarded five email accounts. A few email source already screened out. A few clips created from Mailbrew’s Newsletter that I receive. A few tags too. Stay tuned for more comments. #hey

When I explained to my 17 years old boy how Hey.com is trying to re-invent email service and how cool some features are, he was un-impressed. Young generations don’t use email at all. He has 14K emails in his inbox. 😳🤦🏻‍♂️
