Photography The RSS feed for Photography.

  • A year from now, my photo-sharing digital landscape will look like this: Pixelfed + Glass + Unsplash + Exposure. Gone will be Instagram, Smugmug.

  • Don’t be surprised by my relentless posting of photos… I’m playing with my new toy: Pixelfed. Who’s on Pixelfed, here, btw?

  • That is going away soon. #Instagram

  • My experience with Pixelfed goes so well that I’m in the process of migrating my old photos from Instagram. And what comes after this migration? The IG account closure. While everyone goes wild about Threads and going in drove to Threads, I’m turning my back to this privacy nightmare and fully embracing Fediverse.

  • I spent quite some time on Pixelfed today. I shared a few photos but also started writing an article about my experience with the service. So far, I do like the experience. Much more than I originally thought. Is it because of its polished design? Or is it because of its openness and its citizenship of the Fediverse landscape? I still don’t know. I do sense a few red flags here and there, though. More on that later. But for now, I enjoy the beginning of the ride.

  • A New Start: Pixelfed

It didn’t take long. I’m now on Pixelfed (profile page). The reason it was a quick decision: I found a very specific use case for it. Since returning from my trip to Morocco, I have been looking for a way to share my best pictures with my family and friends. I prefer not to use Instagram / Facebook / Glass for different reasons. So here I am. Enjoy. Continue reading →

  • Related to a previous post, now I’m starting to look at how I can remove Adobe Lightroom Classic from my photo-processing workflow, to keep Lightroom only. I think I need to disable photo syncing between the two Lightroom editions. This would be a start.

  • The only time my M1 Mac mini with 16 GB of RAM struggles is when using Adobe Lightroom Classic. Even after all those promised and supposedly delivered “optimizations”, the classic version of Lr is still sluggish. Adobe Lightroom, being a brand new codebase, is actually way much faster in my experience.

  • Just added two photos to my Unsplash profile page. Spoiler alert: it’s coming from my last trip. Too bad Unsplash doesn’t support RSS feeds. Inoreader is of no help here, either.

  • Thought of the day: I rarely use my photos as a source of wallpapers on my devices. I’m wondering why.🤔

  • The time for a wrap up to this trip to Morocco is coming soon. Here’s one quick fact: I took 2 times more pictures with my iPhone than my Nikon. This ratio keeps increasing with each year. 🤨

  • I’m trying out “Weather on the way” (App Store link) for today’s road. Interesting take on weather forecasts. Carrot Weather should add this feature! We’re leaving Marrakesh one day earlier because of 🥵🥵🥵

  • We are staying at La Maison Arabe, a well-known Riad in Marrakesh. This hotel is full of corridors, stairs and interior jardins forming a complex maze where we can get lost pretty easily. It’s like Fes’s médina. Beautiful place, really.

  • An « Apple Store » in Tangier, Morocco!

  • On 15-inch MacBook Air: Is It Too Big?

When the 15-inch MacBook Air 💻 was officially announced, I was excited and knew it would replace my M1 MacBook Air. Since then, I read many reviews and watched many unboxing videos. People seem to enjoy the new bigger MBA, and all is good, right? But, is it? Nobody talks about the device’s size when you use it on your lap like I do with my MBA right now as I write this post. • Am I the only one who thinks that Adobe is slowly but surely morphine Lightroom Classic into Lightroom? From a distance, I sense that all the cool stuff appears in Lightroom first. The latest example: the capability of exporting a photo-processing session in a video file is available in Lightroom (iPad, iPhone only) but not in Lightroom Classic. 🤔

  • In Photography, the iPhone Can Be a Killer

My nephew, a semi-pro photographer, recently sold 90% of his photography gear (Canon). He only kept one body and one 50mm lens. 😱 He upgraded his phone to the iPhone 14 Pro. 😏He couldn’t be happier, he told me. Even with the iPhone, he essentially kept his photo-processing workflow as-is (Adobe Lightroom). This makes me pause a bit. Sure, he spends much less time doing professional photography work, but still. I call this the iPhone-photography killer effect. Continue reading →

  • I’m still slowly digesting Apple news of this week (think of a cow 🐄 in the field 🌿). About macOS Sonoma widgets 🖼️: it’s surprising that Apple is showing widgets to be perfectly aligned when they are dropped on the desktop background. According to some YouTuber’s early reviews, you can be messy with them and drop them wherever you want. People will get messy, for sure.

  • One week from now, it’s vacation time! I’m too busy at work, so this seems far away; I’m not in the vacation mood yet. This week-end, I really need to kick my butt and put myself in “get in the mood, get ready” mode! One way to achieve that, update my iPhone wallpaper. One step at a time.

  • I’m still digesting everything we heard and saw today. Like someone wrote today: what was that? I already read good (and dumb) reactions here and there, from which I’m trying to stay away, just to focus and maybe get my analysis and perspective one of my own. That’s not easy; it’s so noisy out there right now. Stay tuned for later this week.
