• A big one is coming toward us. In Montreal, it will be a mixture of snow and rain, limiting the total accumulation thanks to a strong influx of hot air from the southeast. Up north of St-Lawrence River, this could be totally different with more than 40 CM of snow! And winds! Can’t wait for our first “northeaster” of the season! Stay tuned for more comments about this meteorological event!

  • My return to work went well, but I’m busy and having difficulty balancing my time between project delivery and staying up-to-date in my IT field. It’s one of my biggest challenges. 😑

  • Appreciation of the day: putting freshly recharged AirPods Pro in the ear, while they are still warm, is in itself worth the price!

  • Is Apple TV Really Improving With tvOS 17?

I’ve extensively used Apple TV (the physical device), Apple TV+ and the Apple TV app during the holidays to play music, videos, movies and series. One thing is clear: tvOS 17 is a regression in terms of usability, for me anyway. I especially don’t like the new left sidebar in the TV app. Navigating back to the home screen is cumbersome, requiring too many “<” back clicks. I often wonder if I’m in the Apple TV app or the Apple TV+ service. Continue reading →

  • Going back to work tomorrow after a two-week break that was much needed. Now, I know what’s awaiting me tomorrow. It’s a fuckin busy agenda. 😳 I refrained all weekend from connecting to my office email. Sure, I could have done a pre-cleanup and say: ok, it’s not that bad. But I didn’t do it. Why? Because my mailbox would have been cleaner, yeah, but not my mental charge, would have been 🤯. It was a good decision to stay partly innocent. ☝🏻

  • I’m happy to announce my next trip: Croatia in June-July. First time over there! I plan to bring my big camera (Nikon D750); I’m not just ready to leave it behind yet. I would be frustrated if I missed photo opportunities because I had “only” the iPhone.

  • Today, I spent some time with a friend to talk about Craft, among other things. Video available here (In French). Tagging @abc because he likes French content!

  • It appears that my goal of cancelling CleanShot Cloud was not a good idea. The savings wouldn’t be that substantial. I’m paying for two Macs, which is 49$ for a one-year updates license. If new releases come out after that time, the renewal cost will be 19$ to keep receiving them. I know that I’ll be upgrading each year to stay current. Updates are relatively frequent and add value. The CleanShot Cloud brings many features and I think are worth the price difference. CleanShot is central to my workflows. I use it all the time. Pricing information is available here.

  • Zavala, an outliner for the Mac, iPad and iPhone, recently got a series of updates after a year of silence. I’m happy to see this app is still alive and well.

  • Frankly, I had to read these instructions many times but couldn’t figure it out. The Kagi Safari Extension 2.0 looks like a major change in design and how it works. They had to revert back because too many users reported issues. I understand Apple’s guidelines and privacy protection might be the root cause for this less-than-user-friendly setup.

  • I’ll be doing a YouTube Live tomorrow, January 7th, at 11AM EST, where I’ll discuss Craft with my cohost. The show will be in French. cc @abc

  • While preparing my CleanShot Cloud account closure1, I realized that I had a bad idea at some point: saving screenshots on CleanShot Cloud and referencing them in articles posted on Micro.blog, or Ghost. Closing my account will probably invalidate many links, which is really bad. 😒 It seems there are no easy way to search for past posts on Micro.blog which contains a specific URL like “cloud.numericcitizen.me/*”. Am I missing something?

    1. CleanShot Cloud is expensive and I cannot justify its cost. I’m using a free setup based on a combination of DropShare and Backblaze instead. ↩︎

  • Finally cancelled my Adobe photography subscription plan. Next to cancel: CleanShot Cloud. Just updated my subscriptions page.

  • A great documentary about Tim Cook. Must watch.

  • Hey Calendar First Impressions

HEY Calendar is being rolled out to a limited set of users. It will be free, and a separate app will be released for the Calendar in the near future. It’s not as controversial a take as the email counterpart. Day view and week view only, by design1. I’m not sure if this is a deal-breaker for many. Time tracking seems limited and cannot replace Toggl / Timery in my workflow. Continue reading →

  • This year, my writing habits will be impacted by my desire to spend more time interacting with the community here. Reaching out and connecting might lead to new opportunities and writing triggers.

  • I’m getting a few more days of vacation and looking forward to practicing my DJ skills to conclude my breakaway from my usual creative activities.

  • Now that HEY calendar is officially rolling out, I’m curious about the time and habits tracking it comes with. Could they replace Toggl (very pricey subscription) and Timery? Who got the new calendar feature enabled?

  • Why do we stilll get blank widgets on iOS 17.2? Who’s to blame? Apple? The developers? A combination of both? How do we fix these?

  • Create more. Consume less. – Manu I want to do the opposite: consume a bit more and create a bit less. For me: consuming is often a content creation trigger. Seems contradictory. But consuming more often means better quality of content creation as a source of nourishment.
