If Apple’s iPhone 16 brings Siri / Gen AI exclusivity, I don’t see that enough for me to consider upgrading. Some tech pundits will probably say that Siri needs much more than an upgraded microphone for a better experience. Photography enhancements are what make me upgrade for the most part.

If Apple were to release an M3 MacBook Air early in 2024, I would be pissed off¹.

As a paying subscriber to HEY mail, I find it strange that the newsletter consumption feature has never been updated since its initial release1. A product is rarely perfect on its first try. For example: newsletters are presented in a semi-expanded form, but I wish I could display them as “newsletter titles only”. Here is a quick recount of my “Ah ah moment” this morning, involving generative AI in a simple workflow. I’m still in awe about it. If I stumble on a long and chatty YouTube video that might be interesting, I’ll use this workflow to quickly get the gist out of it. First, I use Downie (a Mac utility) to download it on my M2 MacBook Air. Then, I use the Whisper Transcription Mac app to transcribe the spoken discussion into text that I export in a PDF1. There is so much buzz around the Internet about the newly released Ubiquiti Unify Express router. To me, it seems to be a capable router at a reasonable price. Man, I wish Apple was still in this market¹.

I finished watching this video today while waiting for my car at the garage. Andrej Karpathy gives a great talk explaining Gen AI and how the whole process works, and then some more explanations about the possible future around AI. It’s a must-see.

While on my desk, I want to use my iPad Pro over Ethernet @ 1 GbE (much faster than wifi) while keeping it charging. Also, it seems that it’s not possible to prioritize Ethernet over Wireless (like we can on the Mac)¹. Am I missing something? Am I the only one on earth who prefers Ethernet? Any suggestion?

I’m generally unfazed by black Friday sales… I buy things when I need them, not because of any deals. But, this morning, I bought a Kodak slides scanner because I have hundreds of old family slides sitting in boxes. I feel sad not to spend the time to put a new life in those memories. So there you go, a new slide scanner. I’ll probably write an extensive review of it.

I created my Backblaze account earlier this week to replace Dropshare Cloud. Today, I discovered that Cloudflare offers S3-compatible storage too, with a similar free tier (10 GB). Since CF is my domain name registrar, maybe I should have created my S3 bucket with them instead?¹ 🤔

This week, I discovered and experienced the joy of having my two-factor authentication PIN configured within Apple’s password management, and it is a joy to set up and use most of the time¹. I’m seriously thinking of leaving Authy behind². If only Apple had a stand-alone password.app.
